Job Description:


The client is the owner of a large copper mine located in the DRC. The incumbent will be tasked with establishing risk management structures, strategies and frameworks and ensuring good corporate governance, compliance and a risk aware workforce.  


Responsibilities:


  • Manage the Governance & Risk function in collaboration with the Head of Corporate Affairs
  • Develop risk management strategies and establish the Risk Function Structure – integrate business strategy into operational goals
  • Ensure relevant Company Standards, Policies, SOP and such other documents as required are drafted, put in place and formally approved and implemented by the Company
  • Ensure senior management remain informed of regulatory, legislative and best practice changes and their obligations under these changes and how they impact the client.
  • Analyse and advise on risk prevention and management, crisis management, authorizations of all kinds and generally, compliance with the obligations applicable to the client
  • Consolidate information from across the company to feed into reporting
  • Prepare appropriate risk, compliance and governance reporting to management forums and Committees as required – highlight any pressing issues
  • Investigate and understand stakeholders needs to enable delivery of a quality service
  • Ensure customer service solutions are aligned to the operational business plan
  • Collaborate, consult and coordinate with the Managerial Leader, Corporate Affairs and DRC Corporate Affairs Manager to deliver work and prioritise according to pressing and changing demands
  • Clearly define goals and objectives and provide direction, coaching and regular feedback
  • Ensure performance contracts are implemented and that performance reviews are conducted
  • Ensure timesheets, leave, and travel requests are submitted and approved timeously
  • Ensure compliance with all HR policies, procedures and standards


 


 


Requirements: Qualification and Skill


  • BSc/BA in law, finance, business administration or similar
  • Experience working in sub-Saharan Africa excluding South Africa
  • Experience In-depth knowledge of the industry’s standards and regulations
  • Excellent knowledge of reporting procedures and record keeping
  • Ability to develop, interpret and implement policy and agreements
  • Minimum 10 years in Governance and Risk with proven experience as a Compliance Manager
  • In-depth knowledge of the mining industry’s standards and regulations
  • Fluency in French and English essential
